Charlie's Story
Highlighting the Importance of Wellness Profiles
This is Charlie – a 16 year-old Burmese mix. He was seen in December of 2009 for a wellness examination. Charlie’s owner had some concerns that he had lost a little weight, but he seemed normal otherwise. We recommended a wellness profile. The tests showed that Charlie’s kidneys chemistries were elevated, which led to the diagnosis of early kidney compromise.
Charlie’s owners have made a great commitment to their old friend and through home-care (consisting of a prescription kidney-specific diet and medications), as well as other treatments, Charlie has remained stable. In fact, he recently had a dentistry performed under anesthesia and is doing quite well.
Charlie’s success and stability over the last nine months with his kidney disease is due to early detection with tests as well as his owners’ dedication to proper treatment and care.
