IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS:

They are NOT all the same!

Care Animal Hospital provides you and your pet the most technologically up to date vaccines. Specific, high quality vaccine manufacturers have safer, more effective products that provide long standing protection and fewer abnormal responses. Constant research by our hospital staff assures that your pet gets the highest quality products available. Only those vaccinations that your pet needs, depending on lifestyle and exposure, will be given.

If a pet has an abnormal response to any vaccination, future problems may be preventable. A normal response to vaccinations may include; a mild fever that may produce a slightly lethargic pet with reduced appetite and decreased activity for 1-2 days.

This is a normal response that means your pet is producing the antibodies to the viruses and bacteria for which it was immunized.

We can only tell so much by physical examination. In order to get a more complete idea of what is happening with your pet internally, it is important to do regular diagnostics. A wellness profile is especially important for senior pets, as it could lead to early detection of serious health risks. A wellness profile, combined with either annual or bi-annual physical exams, is recommended for all adult pets, but most especially for senior or geriatric tests.

These profiles can be run on healthy pets. By doing the tests when your pet has no health concerns as a diagnostic tool to evaluate his/her overall health, you can save up to 20% of what the individual tests would normally cost!!

So, what does the Profile test? The Wellness Profile 1 includes a Senior Comprehensive (blood panel) and a urinalysis.

WELLNESS PROFILE 1 - Costs $227 and tests:

  • Liver (AST, ALT ,Alk Phos., T.Bilirubin ,GGT, Cholesterol, Proteins) This group of tests evaluates various functions and the structural integrity of the liver.
  • Kidneys (BUN, Creatinine, Phosphorous, Amylase, Albumin, Globulin ) These Tests monitor the health and function of the kidneys. They give the most information for detecting kidney disease when combined with results of a urinalysis.
  • Pancreas (Glucose, Amylase, Lipase, Triglyceride) These tests monitor the function and health of the pancreas and the metabolism of carbohydrates.
  • Electrolytes (Sodioum, Potassium, Chloride, Calcium, Phosphorous, Magnesium) These tests monitor the electrical, water balance and general cellular health of the body.
  • Muscle/Bone (CPK, AST, Phosphorous, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Magnesium) These tests check for the presence of muscle damage, trauma or inflammation.
  • Thyroid Function Tests These tests evaluate the function of the thyroid gland.
  • CBC, or “Complete Blood Count” (WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, MVC, MCH, MCHC, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, Basophils, Platelet Count) These tests check for anemia, infection, inflammation, and function of bone marrow.
  • Urinalysis (Color, appearance, specific gravity, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, bilirubin, occult blood, white blood cells, red blood cells, casts, epithelial cells, bacteria, microalbuminera) These tests assess the health and function of the kidneys and bladder, which is especially important for older dogs for the early detection of kidney disease.

A WELLNESS PROFILE 2 - costs $480 and tests what’s listed for the wellness profile 1 and also includes:

  • Chest X-rays - to evaluate size and shape of the heart and evaluate the lungs.
  • ECG (Electrocardiogram) Tests the electrical functions and beats of the heart.

Even without symptoms of disease, the aging process produces internal changes which we need to discover and prevent problems before they begin.
